Main Research Fileds:

Strongly correlated electron systems; high-temperature superconductors; disordered superconductors; systems with charge and spin density waves; electron-phonon interactions; disordered quantum spin systems; (quantum) critical phenomena; renormalization group; spintronics; topological insulators; oxide interfaces; molecular dynamics; non-adiabatic quantum-classical dynamics.

Activities at the Department of Physics and at the Faculty of Sciences:

  • Since Mar. 2002 I am Scientific Secretary of the Deprtmental Library Committee
    and Scientific Responsible of the Deprtmental Library
  • 24  Sep. 2002 - 1 Nov. 2007: Representative of the Researchers in the Programming Committee
  • Starting from 30 Sep. 2002 I have been member of the Committee for the  Trans-national European Evaluation Project (TEEP 2002) organized by the European Community. The final report has been evaluated by the Danish Evaluation Institute di Copenaghen and the Proceedings have been published on the web-site http://www.enqa.net.
  • SInce 18 Feb. 2005 I am coordinator of the computer-based activities of the Departmental Library
  • 12 Apr. 2005 - 1 Nov. 2007 (date of conclusion of the works): Member of the Departmental Committee for the refurbishment of the Main Entrance and Hall of the Marconi Building of the Department f Physics
  • From 14 Feb. 2007 to 8 October 2017 I have been member of the Quality Committee for the self-evaluation of the undergraduate courses at the Department of Physics
  • From 27 May 2013 to 22 November 2016 I have been member of the Joint Theacher-Student Committee of the Faculty of Sciences
  • Fom 10 December  2015 to 31 October 2019 I have been the  Ombudsman of the students of the Faculty of Sciences
  • From 26 October 2016 to 24 march 2021 I have been member of the Monitoring Committee of the Faculty of Sciences
  • From 9 October 2017 to 17 February  2018 I have been  President della of the Quality Committee for the self-evaluation of the undergraduate and graduate courses at the Department of Physics
  • Since  12 July  2018 I am member of the Committee for the assessment of the quality of the research and outreach activities of the Department of Physics
  • Since 1 October 2019 I am Director of the Museum of Physics
  • In the Academic Year  2019/2020 I have been member of the Commitee for Direct Calls at the Department of Physics
  • Since the Academic Year  2020/2021 I amtutor in the QuID work group for the quality and innovation of the teaching activities of the University of Rome Sapienza
  • Since 9 February 2021 I am the coordinator for the evaluation of the outreach activities of the Department of Physics. My project  "Physics for the Public Engagement" was one of the 30 projects selected by the University of Rome Sapienza for the periodic ministerial evaluation
  • Since 25 March 2021 I am President of the Monitoring Committee of the Faculty of Sciences
  • In 2016 and 2020 I have been member of the Committee for the access to the PhD school at the Department of Physcsi (32nd and 36th cicles)

Visits to other Departments and Laboratories:

Besides various visits to foreign Universities and permanences abroad as a postdoc, I have been invited to visit various Departments and Laboratories within projects of joint work and collaboration. In particular, in the years between 2008 and 2011 I have been invited as a Visiting Scientist, for periods of two months each year, to the Donostia International Physics Center di San Sebastian (Basque Country - Spain). In March  2014, May 2017, May 2018, and May 2019 I was Invited Professor to the Chair “Joliot” at the Department of Quantum Physics of the Ecole Superieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles, Paris (France).

I have delivered around sixty talks at international conferences, around forty of which as invited speaker.
